My glassworking teacher is a pipemaker. He asked me to make a stand for one of his pipes
The CAD model
Slices cut with the band saw, sanded with the drum sander, then steamed
After steaming, the pieces are bent on the bending jig. A metal band on the outside prevents splitting
Base segments glued and various veneer pieces ready. All veneers cut with the band saw and sanded with the drum sander
The base is made of several veneers. Here they are glued
The base is turned on a faceplate
The finished base, with bearing
After bending, the pieces air dry for two days, then return to the clamping jig for gluing
The gluing jig also holds the piece in the CNC for routing
Test of pattern on MDF
Test assembly to see if it all fits
After spraying with catalyzed conversion varnish
