The machine shop is started and the CNC router was upgraded for metalworking

The lathe arrives. I considered a CNC lathe, but decided that a small manual one would do what I needed

This corner of the storage area will become the lathe area

The lathe came with a crap toolholder. I modified it to accept the industry standard

The makers of the parts I used to build the CNC router came up with a better idea. The upgrade parts are on the bench

The mill is just the start. Next comes tooling and a custom tool cart

The mill requires 3 phase power. I only have single phase. A Hitachi VFD solves the problem. Not only does it do phase conversion, but it also provides controlled acceleration, deceleration, overcurrent protection and smooth reversing. When fitted with a braking resistor, it can stop the spindle in a few seconds
