After being fascinated by glasswork for many years, I am finally learning to do it. Here are some beginner objects
This is the first object I ever made!
The first time I ever touched glass to flame!
There will be many others, but this first one is special!
There can be only one!
Exercises from the beginner book, mushrooms and rod-to-rod attachments
More experiments, sticking glass to glass and blowing for the first time
And a few more, including sticking to a thin tod without bending
First attempy at putting a loop on a (crudely) tapering drop, and first attempt at color
More experimentation with color, and the first try at implosion
Trying to learn how much heat is required to fuse borosilicate colors
Next exercise, melt a glass rod onto a surface while keeping it straight and uniform in three dimensions. Kinda straight on the sides, heavier at the top. The second piece is an attempt to recover from a total, catastrophic failure(Kinda looks like a Jalapeno). Never give up, failure is also a part of learning
First attempts at soft glass, very different. The right one started as a bead on a mandrel, then when the mandrel release cracked, turned into a mess... Never give up
Another soft glass mess, (it's difficult), and a somewhat successful blown object with dots
Another blown object with dots (that got totally out of control), and an attempt at encasing color
A catastrophic failure of a blown object (never give up), and another encasement
Heat management is important. The left one exploded because of improper heat management. (I glued it back together for the photo) The right one is another attempt at encasement
Practising color and encasement
I keep getting bubbles
A bit fewer bubbles
These bubbles actually look cool. The right object is the best encasement so far
Practicing drawing lines, encasement and condensing. Twisting is easier than holding still. So..let's do the twist
Firat attempt at ribbons. They break easily if heat is not correctly managed
Lines, dots and condensing
Lines condensed into a ball, then tapered. First attempt at implosion with intentional bubbles
Thin lines, dots, gathering and tapering.
Thin lines, bands, dots and roundness. The piece on the right exploded due to improper heat management when trying to flame-polish the punty scar. It was glued back together for the photo
This one, worked a bit better. As did this one
First attempt at a tube implosion. Sparkly glass encased, then pattern applied over top
Lines and dots and an implosion
Made from tube, attempted to open base end. Multi-level encasement
Lines, dots and implosion. Fine lines on base, nodule inside
More lines and dots. Also in soft glass
Soft glass exploration. Design on back, lens in front
Design on back, lens in front. Fine lines
Fine lines. Design on back, lens in front
